Groundbreaking Ceremony: Nixa Solar Farm
Join us for a groundbreaking ceremony
Nixa Solar Farm
Gardner Capital Inc. in conjunction with The City of Nixa, Nixa Utilities, and MC Power Companies is breaking ground on what will soon be southwest Missouri’s largest solar farm. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 10am on June 27th at 1565 W. Mt. Vernon Street.
The City of Nixa has an agreement to purchase 100% of the power generated from this 72-acre facility which will include 33,288 solar panels. Once completed, the solar farm will generate up to 7.92 megawatts of AC power which will provide over 15 million kilowatt hours per year, that’s roughly 9% of Nixa’s annual energy consumption. Construction has already begun at the site and power is expected to flow into the city’s electric grid by the end of the year.
The project will reduce the City’s carbon footprint (Co2 emissions) by 10,542 metric tons per year, equivalent to burning over 11 million pounds of coal or nearly 1.2 million gallons of gasoline.
The city will purchase the power from this solar farm at a lower price than what we are currently paying for power from City Utilities of Springfield and the Southwestern Power Administration. The savings amount to approximately $2.5 million over the 25-year contract.
The facility is owned by Gardner Capital. MC Power of Lee’s Summit is the contractor and operator of the facility.
